“Step Two” Lesson Plan

1. CCG: The Earth in Space: Understand the Earth’s place in the solar system and the universe.
• SC.03.ES.03 Identify and trace the movement of objects in the sky
Objectives:
Students will complete Step One of the Web quest and then they will complete Step Two. Students will watch the videos on “Space Place Live” for the duration of the lesson.
Materials
Students:
A Laptop for each student
Access to the Internet (Firefox/Mozilla)
Head phones for sound
Teacher:
A class set of Laptops
A projector that can be connected to the computer (for visual instructions)
Laptop or Computer
Access to the Internet
Procedure:
Activate prior knowledge/pre-assessment:
This lesson is designed for students that have a basic knowledge of Laptops and Internet use.
1. Remind students of the prior lesson in Step One.
2. Ask them to remember which planet they chose. Name each planet and have students raise their hands when you name their’s.
3. Let students know that today, they will be working on Step Two of the Web quest. For this step, they will learn a little bit more about NASA.
Instruction:
Talk with students about what they know about NASA. Ask questions like: What is NASA? What do people do at NASA? What does NASA stand for?
Using the teacher laptop and projector, go to the Web quest, Step Two and one of the Links provided. Model what students should do.
Introduction:
1. Give students the web address for the Web quest: http://nasaspacemission.blogspot.com
2. Reread the directions to Step One and let students know that today they will also need to finish Step One if they have not.
3. Read the Step Two directions.
4. Remind students that this activity will last for the remainder of the lesson. Tell them they should have time to get through most of the videos.
5. Give students the remaining time to work individually. (Allow some talking. Students may need to help each other.)
Guided practice:
Circulate around the room offering help and checking student work and progress. Interact with each student.
Assessment:
Students will be assessed on the objective stated above. They must finish Step One and watch “Space Place Live” videos.
